All

  1. ORANGE SHIRT DAY is taking place tomorrow Fri, Sept 29th. Students may choose to wear an orange shirt of any kind as First Nations, local governments, schools and communities come together in the spirit of reconciliation.
  2. ALLERGEN ALERT Please check your email for the 2017-18 medical alert regarding allergens.
  3. PHOTO DAY Mark your calendar for class & individual photos taking place on Mon, Oct 2nd.
  4. MOJA MONDAY will be taking place on Mon, Oct 2nd. Come enjoy a delicious cup of coffee… bags will also be available for purchase!
  5. THE CARD PROJECT We will be taking part in the Card Project again this year so if you’re looking for Christmas cards or gifts this is a great opportunity! Each student will submit one piece of artwork that can then be turned into cards or notebooks for purchase. All orders will be delivered to the school by the end of November in plenty of time to mail to out of town friends & relatives.
  6. MOUNT SEYMOUR FUNDRAISER TELL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY! Early bird rates are available until Oct 15th! (Note that the Upper Elementary students will receive a free season pass in January through the PE program at North Star. If they already have a pass they can receive a free lesson instead.
  7. FEATURE FAMILY SHEET Reminder for new families to complete and return your Feature Family Sheet for posting on the office bulletin board. This is a great way for members of the North Star Community to get to know you.
  8. ASC DROP-INS To maintain consistency as we transition new staff and establish a new routine for the After School Care program, drop-ins will be unavailable until Wed, Nov 1st.
  9. MARK YOUR CALENDAR for the Thanksgiving holiday on Mon, Oct 9th. School will not be in session.
     

Casa

  1. NEW CASA PARENT PHONE CALLS will be taking place from Mon, Oct 2nd to Fri, Oct 6th. Calls take place after school and give parents an opportunity to touch base with the classroom teacher about their child’s transition into North Star. Sign-up sheets are posted on the office bulletin board.
  2. CHANGE OF CLOTHES A reminder to please ensure that your child has a complete change of clothes, including undergarments and socks, which are to be labeled and left in a bag on his/her hook in the coat room. In addition to bathroom accidents, students also require a change of clothes for the occasional classroom water spill and outside play on a rainy day.

Extended-day Kindergarten

  1. EXTENDED-DAY PE The Extended-day students will have PE in-house on Tuesday and dance at the NSWC on Thursday next week.
  2. CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK If you are interested in becoming a parent volunteer for any of the fieldtrips or PE activities where volunteers are needed throughout the year please see Jeanne for information on obtaining a criminal record check.
  3. PIZZA DAY Attached please find the order form for October Pizza Days. The deadline to order for all dates is Mon, Oct 2nd.

Elementary

  1. UPPER ELEMENTARY HTHT The UE students will participate in the “Space” Workshop with a High Touch-High Tech scientist tomorrow Fri, Sept 29th.
  2. LOWER ELEMENTARY PE The LE students will play Sportball for PE next week.
  3. UPPER ELEMENTARY PE The UE students will have teacher led PE on Tuesday next week. On Thursday the Year 7 students will go on a trail run and the Year 4-6 students will have dance at the NSWC.
  4. YEAR 7 FIELDTRIP The Year 7 students will be going to see “Terra and Beyond” with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Chris Hadfield & Danny Michel on Fri, Oct 6th. Please complete and submit the attached permission form to your classroom teacher on or before Mon, Oct 2nd.

  7. CAMP SUMMIT The Lower & Upper Elementary students head to Camp Summit for the day on Fri, Oct 13th. Please mark your calendars as the bus will be departing from North Star at 7:30am sharp! An email with further information will be sent out shortly.
  8. FREE DRESS DAY Our next Free Dress Day is FriSept 29thStudents donate a minimum of $1.00 to their teacher upon entering the classroom first thing in the morning to wear their choice of clothing rather than the school uniform. Students must wear appropriate footwear, clothes must be in good repair and hats/gloves are not permitted to be worn inside the classroom.
