  1. PRO D DAY Reminder that tomorrow Fri, Oct 21st is a Pro D Day. School will not be in session.
  2. PARENT DISCOVERY We are very excited to welcome back special guest speaker Sharon Selby on Tues, Oct 25th! This parent discovery evening is open to all families and Sharon’s topic will be “How to Raise Responsible & Resilient Children Without Losing Your Alpha Position”. Please see the attached poster for more information on Sharon. Sign-up sheet for attendance and childcare is posted on the office bulletin board. Childcare is available for students of North Star registered in Casa & Elementary.
  3. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Please note that our AGM has been cancelled for Wed, Nov 2nd. The Board of Directors would like to apologize for any inconvenience as they are currently doing their very best to transition to the new BC Societies Act. We will provide you with the new date as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!
  4. PHONE TREE Reminder to please review the attached copy of our 2016-17 Phone Tree and confirm with Jeanne that your information is correct. If it is not, please provide Jeanne with any updates.
  5. INFANT & TODDLER Registration is now open for our January & April sessions. There are still a few spots left in both the infant & toddler classes. Attached please find the application form. Feel free to send it to friends & family!
  6. BLACK & ORANGE DAY is scheduled for Mon, Oct 31st. To ensure that there is no confusion (or tears) on this fun day, we have outlined expectations below:
    • Students are invited to wear black and/or orange coloured clothing to school.
    • Halloween costumes are not permitted.
    • In keeping with our Healthy Foods Policy and out of respect for parents who choose not to give their child sweets, we would like to remind you to please leave all candy and sweets at home.
  7. BAKE SALE The Upper Elementary class is holding a bake sale on Mon, Oct 31st. Please check back next week for further information!

Casa

  1. PRACTICUM STUDENTS Please join us in welcoming our current practicum students from the AMI Training Centre, Christina Liao and Amy Wang. Christina will be in the Cypress and Amy will be in the Sitka classroom to observe from Mon, Oct 24th to Fri, Oct 28th.
  2. IMPORTANT REMINDER To date, only a handful of parents have registered using the gift certificate that was placed in your family pocket. This online Montessori parenting program “Seeing your Child the Montessori Way” is a terrific platform to ask parenting questions and gain important insight and information about Montessori education and your child’s development. We would love to see all Casa parents taking advantage of this gift! For more information and a direct link please see the attached information sheet to register and get started! There are a limited number of subscriptions and beginning next week this opportunity will be opened up to the Elementary parents as well.

Extended-day Kindergarten

  1. MOVIE NIGHT The Year 6 students are hosting a movie night for Extended-day and Elementary students on Thurs, Oct 27th. The movie will be Hotel Transylvania (rated PG) showing from approximately 3:20-4:45pm. Tickets are $7 and will be on sale at the front office from 8:00-8:30am & 3:00-3:20pm Mon, Oct 24th to Wed, Oct 26th. Students attending are asked to bring a healthy snack.
  2. EXTENDED-DAY KINDERGARTEN PE The Extended-day K students will continue with Sportball for PE next week.

Elementary

  4. FREE DRESS DAY Our next Free Dress Day is scheduled for Fri, Oct 28th. Students donate a minimum of $1.00 to their teacher upon entering the classroom first thing in the morning to wear their choice of clothing rather than the school uniform. Students must wear appropriate footwear, clothes must be in good repair and hats/gloves are not permitted to be worn inside the classroom.
