Weekly Memo May 9

All Families

  1. EMERGENCY CELL NUMBERS If you have not done so, please provide Jeanne with the cell phone number(s) you would like to use to receive SCHOOL WIDE emergency text information from North Star.  This will be a number for which you will only receive information.  We will use a school cell phone for this purpose and that number may not be used to contact North Star for any reason other than an emergency such as an earthquake, fire, school closure, etc.  We would recommend having both parents included.
  2. CHILDRUN 2013 Join us for a 5 km walk/run or 1 km walk on Sun, June 2nd near Children’s Hospital that is fun, great exercise for people of any age or fitness level, and an opportunity to support a wonderful charity.  If you would like to join us this year follow the instructions to register.  Register at: http://bcchf.ca/events/events-calendar/childrun/.  Click on Register>select No (unless you were a member last year and know your registration information)>Join an Existing Team>scroll down to North Star Montessori team, and enter your personal information.
  3. LYNN VALLEY DAYS Mark your calendars for Sat, May 25th and Lynn Valley Days!  North Star will have an entry in the parade again this year.  Sign-up sheet is posted on the office bulletin board.
  4. OTTAWA GRAD TRIP FUNDRAISERS The Grad Class will be holding a Bake Sale and a Read-a-Thon as part of their Ottawa Grad Trip fundraising efforts.
    • Bake Sale Bake sales will be held on May 13th and May 22nd.  Watch for posters around the school for further details.
    • Read-a-Thon A Read-a-Thon will take place on Tues, May 21st.  Grad students will be collecting pledges from friends and families.  As well we will post a pledge sheet on the office bulletin board for interested North Star parents & family.
  5. PRO D DAY Our next Pro D Day is scheduled for Fri, May 17th.  Class will not be in session.

Casa

  1. MOTHER’S DAY TEA The K & Casa students will be serving a Mother’s Day Tea tomorrow Fri, May 10th.  The tea for the morning Casa class will be from 11:00-11:30am and the tea for the afternoon Casa class will be from 3:00-3:30pm.
  2. 3-YEAR-OLD VISION SCREENING Vancouver Coastal Health will be here on Wed, May 15th screening vision for 3 year olds.  The morning class will be done at 10:30 and the afternoon class will be done at 12:30pm.  Please review the attached Parent Letter for more information or to opt out.

Kindergarten

  1. PIZZA DAY Our next Pizza Day is tomorrow Fri, May 10th.
  2. KINDERGARTEN PE Get your helmets ready and bikes tuned!  The K students will be biking for PE beginning Tues, May 28th to Thurs, June 6th.

Elementary

  1. PIZZA DAY Our next Pizza Day is tomorrow Fri, May 10th.
  2. MOVIE NIGHT As part of their fundraising efforts for the Ottawa Trip, our Grad Class will be hosting a movie night tomorrow Fri, May 10th from 3:15-5:00pm for students in Years 1-6.  The movie will be Rio which is rated PG.  Cost of each ticket is $10.00 which includes the movie, popcorn, fruit kebob and juice.  The sign up sheet is posted on the office bulletin board.
  3. SWIMMING VOLUNTEERS We still require a parent volunteer for Years 3-6 swimming on Thurs, May 16th & 23rd.  Please contact Jeanne if you are able to volunteer for either of these days.
