Weekly Memo April 25

All Families

  1. CHILDRUN 2013 Join us for a 5 km walk/run or 1 km walk on Sun, June 2nd near Children’s Hospital that is fun, great exercise for people of any age or fitness level, and an opportunity to support a wonderful charity.  If you would like to join us this year follow the instructions to register.  Register at: http://bcchf.ca/events/events-calendar/childrun/.  Click on Register>select No (unless you were a member last year and know your registration information)>Join an Existing Team>scroll down to North Star Montessori team, and enter your personal information.
  2. PRO D DAY Reminder that tomorrow Fri, April 26th is a Pro D Day.  School will not be in session.
  3. TUITION PAYMENTS Reminder that tuition payments are due on Wed, May 1st.
  4. NSWC LOCKOUT There is the potential for a lockout of union employees and subsequent strike action at the NSWC beginning Sat, April 27th and we should have confirmation late afternoon tomorrow.  Should a lockout occur, please note that employees are only able to picket at the front entrance of the North Shore Winter Club.  We will still have access to our school and our entrance will remain clear.
  5. LYNN VALLEY DAYS Mark your calendars for Sat, May 25th and Lynn Valley Days!  North Star will have an entry in the parade again this year – more info to follow.
  6. OTTAWA GRAD TRIP FUNDRAISERS The Grad Class will be holding a Bake Sale and a Read-a-Thon as part of their Ottawa Grad Trip fundraising efforts.
    • Bake Sale Bake sales will be held on May 13th and May 22nd.  Watch for posters around the school for further details.
    • Read-a-Thon A Read-a-Thon will take place on Tues, May 21st.  Grad students will be collecting pledges from friends and families.  As well we will post a pledge sheet on the office bulletin board for interested North Star parents & family.

Casa

  1. MOTHER’S DAY TEA The K & Casa students will be serving a Mother’s Day Tea on Fri, May 10th.  The morning tea will be from 11:00-11:30am and the afternoon tea will be from 3:00-3:30pm.  Further details to follow.

Kindergarten

  1. PIZZA DAY Our next Pizza Day will be Fri, May 3rd.
  2. KINDERGARTEN MARTIAL ARTS Reminder that Thurs, May 2nd will be the final session for Martial Arts and uniforms are on loan from Champions.  Please bring your child’s uniform home after the final session to be washed and returned by Mon, May 6th.  If the uniform is not returned in good repair it will result in a $25.00 charge.
  3. KINDERGARTEN PE Get your helmets ready and bikes tuned!  The K students will be biking for PE from Tues, May 28th to Thurs, June 6th.

Elementary

  1. PARENT ED NIGHT Reminder that Mon, April 29th is Parent Ed Night and will focus on Cosmic Education in the Real World.
  2. FREE DRESS DAY Our next Free Dress Days is Fri, May 3rd.  We continue to raise funds for Debra, an organization that supports children with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).  For a minimum donation of $1.00 (cash only) students will not be required to wear a uniform but be free to choose what they wear to school on each of those days.
  4. PIZZA DAY Our next Pizza Day will be Fri, May 3rd.
  5. YEARS 1&2 PE Get your helmets ready and bikes tuned!  The Years 1&2 students will be biking for PE from Tues, May 7th to Thurs, May 23rd.
  6. MOVIE NIGHT As part of their fundraising efforts for the Ottawa Trip, our Grad Class will be hosting a movie night on Fri, May 10th from 3:15-5:00pm for students in Years 1-6.  The movie will be Rio which is rated PG.  Cost of each ticket is $10.00 which includes the movie, popcorn, fruit kebob and juice.  A sign up sheet will be posted on the office bulletin board.  Maximum 20 so sign up early!
