This summer was a nice balance of staying close to home and enjoying my time on the North Shore with my dog and having a few adventures out of town. My out of town highlight was flying to Alaska to meet up with some friends from Washington who own and run private charters out of a beautiful wooden boat built in 1928. Although we didn’t leave the Port of Juneau, it was still an amazing experience to stay on the boat and learn its history, meet many of the local fisherman and hike Mount Roberts and around Mendenhall Glacier. The rest of my summer I found time to mountain bike, including staying at Whistler during Crankworx, which is one of the most popular events in the world for mountain bikers.

For me, summer time is family time. I love the relaxed, schedule free moments spent with my daughter, Jacquie and husband, Richard.

This year we spent July close to home. We went camping at Cultus Lake, rock climbing in Squamish, discovered Mystery Lake on one of our new hikes, and I was a guest storyteller at the Harmony Arts Festival in West Vancouver. In August we traveled to Belfast, Northern Ireland where my husband started working on Game of Thrones, Season VII.

In Belfast we don wetsuits to enjoy swimming, surfing, and paddle boarding in the Irish Sea; and have our Gortex handy for hikes into the Belfast Hills where we explored the caves believed to have been dug out by Ancient Celts.

I look forward to another busy and fulfilling year.
